New Arrivals from Mother Earth, The Bruery, Stone, & Big Al Brewing!

Mother Earth Brew Co. of Vista, CA finally answers the age-old question we’re constantly answering: “WHERE are ALL your PEANUT BUTTER BEERS?” Well, look no further. Sin Tax Imperial Stout gives you the dark roasted malts and peanut buttery finish you crave. Those with allergies rejoice, ’cause no peanuts were used in the making of this beer.

The Bruery Cuivre is an oak-aged solera-blended Belgian-inspired Old Ale, and if that many hyphens doesn’t get your tastebuds a-tinglin’ then mayhaps a new batch of Sour in the Rye, the first bottling to hit our shelves from the brand-spankin’-new Bruery Terreux operation in Anaheim, will give you the tickles.

Stone collaborates with (the Asheville of the West) Portland, Oregon’s Ecliptic Brewing and (the Portland of the East) Asheville, North Carolina’s Wicked Weed to bring us a blend to behold: Points Unknown IPA. 25% Belgian-style Tripel aged in Pinot Noir barrels used to age Tequila, 75% fresh West Coast Double IPA. You could search coast-to-coast and not find another beer like this.

Big Al Brewing is not to be confused with Big Al’s, but getting wild is what both are all about. In the case of the Time Capsule October ’14, open fermentation captured wild microflora that help to give this beer it’s own time and place. A mention on the back of the bottle to the SF Giants’ third World Series title in five years might be of some interest to the completist superfan out there.

2015 World Whiskey Awards Annouced

Hey All,

Thought I’d share some of Whiskey Magazine’s 2015 winners, always a good microcosm of the best whiskies from a given year.

World’s Best Single Malt: Kavalan Vinho Barrique Cask Strength Single Barrel $179.99

World’s Best Blended Malt: Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Pure Malt Whisky $169.99

World’s Best Canadian Whisky: Forty Creek Confederation Oak $69.99

World’s Best Pot Still Whisky: Red Breast 15 Year Old Pot Still Whiskey $89.99

World’s Best American Whiskey: Thomas Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey $99.99

Pretty decent selections if you ask me, and wouldn’t you know it we carry every single one of these. Thomas Handy is the only one not currently in stock although we do carry it, but if your familiar with the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection you’ll know that’s a one day a year release. Does this mean Healthy Spirits has the best whiskey collection in the world?

If you want to see the rest of the results check them out here:

2015 World Whiskies Awards

New Arrivals: Jim Beam Signature Craft Oat and High Rye, Moylan’s Double Barrel and American Single Malts!

Hey All,

Got some new gems in this week. We now have 6 offerings from the Jim Beam Signature Craft line, including the newest Oat and High Rye recipe bourbons. I get a smirk from people every time I recommend these but don’t be fooled by the Jim Beam name. If they were the “Knob Creek Signature Craft” line no one would think twice, but it’d be coming from the same place. The four pictured above are part of the harvest collection where a new grain replaces rye in the mashbill, except for the high rye offering of course. We still have a little of the 11 year Red Wheat and 11 year Brown Rice left from the first release, and those were incredible as well.

Making a long awaited come back is the Moylan’s line of whiskies. These are arguably the best single malt whiskies produced in the US and are shockingly hard to find. The crown jewel for me is the 8 year double barrel cask strength cherry wood smoked single malt. Aged in new charged oak barrels the color and texture are unbelievable. They use a percentage of cherry wood smoked barley so it’s not overly smokey and actually has some wonderful red fruit and cherry like undertones. The “American Single Malt” is finished in orange brandy barrels and comes in regular or cask strength proofs. These two have some beautiful vanilla and candied orange undertones and are aged around 4 years.
Get em while you can. Cheers
Nate

Some new items, and some elusive restocks this week!

The new:

Healthy Spirits is the first retailer in San Francisco to offer 101 Cider House ciders! Natural fermentation of apple and quince juice with delicious additions make for vibrant and fresh flavors. We have:

SoCal Scrumpy
(the flagship base model)

I.P.C.
(dry-hopped India Pale Cider. Great aromatics and spice, very little bitterness)

Cactus Red
(prickly pear and agave nectar with a rosy hue and sweet-tart start)

also:

Allagash Century Ale
(Saison aged 2 years in stainless steel with brett. Drink now!)

Pine Street Medium Auburn Amber Ale
(Don’t call it an English ale, it’s an American amber! With English ingredients)

and making their triumphant return:

De Proef x Port Brewing Signature Ale
(Dirk & Tomme put their John Hancock on a wild Belgian IPA kinda thing. Orignally released in 2007 so you class of ’12 tickers can get your apps up to date!)

La Trappe Quadrupel
(to say 750ml bottles of this have been elusive would be an understatement. Get this Trappist classic while you can!)

Firestone Walker Parabola 2015

The wait is finally over! It seems every year the demand for Firestone Walker‘s barrel-aged beers increases dramatically, with Parabola leading the charge.

Both Healthy Spirits locations have gotten an allocated amount of 2015 Parabola. We do expect to sell out quickly, so here is what you need to know:

Reserving bottles by phone is an exclusive privilege for Beer of the Month Club members. If you’re calling to reserve a bottle, you MUST already be a member, in good standing, of our Beer of the Month Club. Otherwise, DO NOT CALL as we expect a high call volume. For more information about our Beer of the Month Club click here!

from Firestone Walker:
One of our most aggressive and sought-after offerings. Bold bourbon, tobacco and espresso aromas and a hint of American oak greet the nose. Rich, chewy roasted malts, charred oak and bourbon-like vanilla fill the palate and create a seamless finish. A remarkably complex brew that offers a transcendental drinking experience – enjoy with good company.

style: Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout
abv: 14%
ibu: 82
color: 167SRM
malts: Crisp Maris Otter Pale, Munich, Cara-hell, Carafa, Dark & Light Crystal, Chocolate, Oats, Roasted Barley
hops: Bittering—Zeus; Late Kettle—Hallertau
availability: 22 oz bottle

And remember: Healthy Spirits carries a WORLD CLASS selection of barrel-aged ales 365 days a year, including the often overlooked (and Firestone Walker produced) Humboldt Brewing Company’s Black Xantus, a bourbon, union, and wine barrel aged java stout.
